Texas Township does allow recreational fires, and open burning for yard debris disposal. NO debris fires are allowed in all areas of Colony Woods and some surrounding platted and unplatted areas by request of the property owners. See map.

You must apply for or update a burning permit annually. Stop in each spring at the Township office to obtain your burn permit, or you can print the online permit form and fax it to the township at (269) 375-0791. Once you have a signed permit on file, you can call the Township office for permission to burn on the day you wish to burn. Burning authorizations are issued one day at a time.

The Township office is open Monday through Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The office is closed Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and holidays.

For after hours burning requests, call 375-4610 for the Fire Station. If there is no answer, dial extension 119 when you hear the voice mail greeting.

The purpose of calling the Township for permission to burn is that the Fire Department monitors the weather and outdoor conditions for safe burning days. Burning authorizations are issued only during favorable weather conditions. No authorizations will be issued when the wind speed is constant at 10 miles per hour or more, when there is an Ozone Action Alert day, or when the Dept. of Natural Resources issues a Moderate or higher fire index for the day. Sometimes, we may allow burning only before noon on a given day anticipating hazardous fire weather later in the day.

Also, if we receive reports from residents regarding smoke we can check our permit list to see if anyone in the reported area is burning that day, which would explain the smoke. It is not necessary to obtain a burn authorization for recreational fires. See Burning Regulations for more information.

Signed forms can be faxed to the township at (269) 375-0791.

The Township Burn Permits and Regulations are available in PDF format and you must have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer to view them.
